Jeremiah O. McCarthy

Since 1967, Jeremiah has been associated with the family's communications business, initially serving as President of Oneida County Telephone. In 1982, he founded Northland Communications, the first certified competitive long distance carrier in New York State. Currently, he serves as Northland Communication's president and CEO.

Jeremiah received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Colgate University. He currently serves on the Boards of Commercial Travelers and Monitor Life Insurance Companies, E.D.G.E., the American Heart Association, and is co-chairmen of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way.

Jeremiah formerly served as past president of The New York State Telephone Association, past president of Faxton-Children's Hospital Foundation, and past president of the Holland Patent Library Association. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Newport Telephone, Delhi Telephone, Fulmont Insurance and Utica College.


James P. McCarthy

A third generation family member of Northland Communications, Jim serves as Vice President, primarily responsible for strategic planning for the overall organization and the day to day management of the Syracuse market. He has been with Northland since 1993.

Jim received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Siena College and earned his Master of Science Degree in Telecommunications from SUNY Institute of Technology-Utica/Rome. Active in his community, Jim serves on the board of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Utica-Watertown.

He is a member of the Metropolitan Development Association and the Leadership Greater Syracuse Class of 2006. Jim was recently honored as a Greater Syracuse 40 Under 40 award winner, recognizing young business leaders who have made a contribution to local business and the community.


Thomas Ellis

Having recently celebrated twenty years of service with Northland, Tom currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Previously, he was employed with Keith Clark in Sydney, New York. Tom's career began with the then "Big 8" public accounting firm, Pete Marwick at which time he earned his credentials as a Certified Public Accountant.

Tom is a graduate of Ithaca College. He currently serves on The Workforce Investment Board of Oneida, Madison and Herkimer Counties, the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce Board and the Utica Industrial Development Corporation Board, of which he is Treasurer. Additionally, Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and past Director and President of the Hospice Foundation Board.


Mary Malone McCarthy

A member of the Northland executive team since 1997, Mary Malone is currently a Senior Vice President. Prior to her career with Northland Communications, she was the Regional Manger for the Olsten Corporation based out of Albany New York. She was previously employed as the Regional Human Resource Director for Portola Packaging, an international plastics manufacturer located in San Jose, California where she was responsible for managing the Human Resource functions for the New York, Iowa and Illinois facilities.

A third generation family member of Northland Communications, Mary Malone is a graduate of Wells College. She currently serves on the board of The United Way and the Central New York Community Arts Council and is the Co-Founder of the Accent Excellence program. Additionally, she is a past board member of the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce and Co-Founder of Young Leaders United, a division of the United Way focusing on the recruitment and retention of young donors in the Mohawk Valley region. Most recently, she was the 2007 Chair of the United Way campaign achieving a goal of 3.7 million dollars.


Maureen McCarthy Tracy

Maureen, a third generation family member of Northland Communications, serves as Senior Account Executive, primarily responsible for growth of sales in the Central New York market. She has been with Northland since 1996.

Maureen received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Corporate Communications from the Roy H. Parks School of Communication at Ithaca College. Maureen also spent time studying at the University of Adelaide in South Australia.

Active in her community, Maureen serves on the board of the Onondaga-Oswego Chapter of the American Red Cross. Maureen is a past board member of Leadership Greater Syracuse and HOPE for Bereaved. Maureen is an active member with the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and part of the Leadership Greater Syracuse Class of 2001. Maureen was honored as a Greater Syracuse 40 Under 40 award winner in 2000, recognizing young business leaders who have made a contribution to local business and the community.

Additionally, Maureen was honored with the Distinguished Sales and Marketing Award, given by the Sales and Marketing Executives in 2000. She was the recipient of the Women in Business Award in 2004. This award is given to 20 women each year based on business accomplishments, civic leadership, achievements and awards.
