2018: Choosing The Best Business Phone System

Another year has come and went, and you still haven’t replaced your company’s outdated phone system that’s running off an old, traditional, landline. We understand that choosing the best phone service for your company can be overwhelming and well, at times a bit intimidating. Don’t let this stop you from upgrading and advancing your business communications to the next level.

As a business owner, many different factors come into play as you review all of the available options. Making sure your replacement service and system meet all of your unique needs and address any problems you’re currently experiencing is critical. Remember, it’s 2018 and the technology used in today’s phone systems is incredible, so take advantage of it!  Here are some important things to consider when choosing the best phone system and service for your business.

Do you want to own and maintain your equipment?

This is a common question that businesses often contemplate when deciding which option is best for them. Purchasing a full system is the most expensive option and could cost you a pretty penny. The good news is, the phones are yours, you own them! The bad news is that you’re now responsible for maintaining the equipment and you’ll have the same phones for many, many years. Also, you’ll still be responsible for a monthly service fee for your voice lines.

If you don’t want to purchase or maintain equipment and are looking for something that includes your voice lines and software updates then a cloud-hosted phone system might be the best fit for you.  (This tends to be much less expensive option!)

Is mobility and flexibility important to you?

Picture this. Your son just made the middle school basketball team, and his first game is at 4 PM on Tuesday. Typically, you’re Business Unlimitedin the office until 5 PM but this is his first game, and it’s important that you be there. Having a phone system that can forward your business calls to your cell phone so you can leave work early without fear of missing an urgent call is priceless. If work-life balance is essential to you and your business than an all-inclusive phone system that has this feature is something for you to consider.

This might also be a good option if your job requires traveling, being on the road, or if your business has remote workers. In the end, our advice is to pick the best option that allows you to live your life and run your business.

Setup & Installation

With phone systems, there are two options, on-premise or cloud-hosted (virtual) solutions. If you choose to go with an on-premise option, your IT staff will need to setup, install, update and maintain each piece of equipment you own. If you don’t have an IT team, there will be additional installation, setup and maintenance fees you’ll encounter.

On the other hand, a cloud-hosted solution uses minimal IT resources because the equipment is housed and maintained by the provider– like Northland Communications for example.  These types of systems are also quick and easy to setup which helps eliminate some of the fear and anxiety when replacing your existing equipment and service.
