5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT NORTHLAND COMMUNICATIONS

About Us | By Northland Communications Team

A lot has changed since we started in business in 1905, so, we thought we would update you with five quick facts to know about Northland!

1. We have over 1,000 miles of fiber-optic internet!

Northland’s fiber internet is the backbone of our network and powers everything we do.  Our fiber is fast, reliable, and dedicated to your business. We have over 1,000 miles of fiber throughout Central New York. Read more about our fiber internet.

2. We have offices in 2 locations: Holland Patent + Syracuse.

In 1905 we planted our roots in Holland Patent and opened Oneida County Telephone Company for business. In 1995, we opened an office in Syracuse, which allowed us to service our customers better as we grew our product and services. We have updated and expanded our Holland Patent office and moved from our first Syracuse office to Franklin Square.

3. We are third-generation family-owned.

Jim McCarthy, our President, is the third generation of the McCarthy family to run Northland Communications.   Also in the family business is his sister, Maureen, she is our Vice President of Community + Connections and also manages our Customer Relationship team.  The two both grew up at Northland, learning from their father, Jim recalls his father’s philosophy “if you take care of your employees, they will take care of the customers.”  This continues to be a foundational philosophy at Northland Communications.

4. We love technology!

We understand the importance of having reliable technology to run your business. Our unified communication system, Business Unlimited, provides the technology you need to run your business from anywhere. We continue to enhance our services and products and research new ones to take your business into the future.

5. We love our customers and the communities we serve!

In the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked hard to provide our business community with remote work options.  We saw an opportunity to take care of our community.  We turned up over 2,000 licenses that enabled businesses to continue their work remotely.
The Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce nominated Northland Communications for Business of the Year in the For-Profit, 50+ employees category.   This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our team members, who stepped up to help our business community!
